Puerto Vallarta with a strong presence at FITUR 2024

Puerto Vallarta, aiming to enhance its connectivity and address seasonal demand, is participating in the first major fair of the year, one of the most significant globally, where Mexico showcases its entire tourist offering to the Spanish and European markets.

This edition of the International Tourism Fair, commonly known as FITUR, is taking place from January 24th to 28th, 2024, at the IFEMA MADRID exhibition center. Over the course of the five-day event, tourism industry professionals and those interested in the latest sector trends, as well as the general public seeking to explore available destinations, come together. This time, the fair features tourism offerings from over 130 countries.

This platform presents a significant opportunity for Puerto Vallarta, especially considering our flight connectivity from Madrid to Guadalajara, allowing us to attract a different profile of visitors to the destination. Spanish and European travelers often seek to explore the entirety of Jalisco State, which boasts pre-Hispanic and colonial attractions, haciendas, museums, volcanoes, agave landscapes, rural tourism, ecotourism, and, of course, sun and beach. In Puerto Vallarta specifically, visitors can enjoy a wide range of options to suit all tastes.

Among the reasons why this destination stands out are its authentic Mexican essence. Beyond being a beach destination, Puerto Vallarta offers additional cultural experiences. The city comes to life through its traditions and flavors; it hosts important festivities like the Charro Day and its championship and celebrates its heritage with impressive events like the tallest Catrina in the world. With over 2,000 restaurants offering 40 different cuisines, along with more than 50 outdoor activities and a stunning coastline stretching over 110 kilometers with golden sands and emerald waters, Puerto Vallarta truly has something for everyone.

As part of the promotion strategy and collaborative efforts between the State Tourism Secretariat of Jalisco, Guadalajara, and Puerto Vallarta, various activities have been initiated to establish strategic partnerships and value-added initiatives. This includes partnerships with the Tequila Regulatory Council, where an impressive tequila tasting event was hosted, inviting 20 prominent media outlets and influencers to discover the beauty of Jalisco while enjoying the traditional sound of mariachi, another pride of Jalisco.

Additionally, Puerto Vallarta embarked on a brand activation campaign by cycling around the city to generate visibility and interest in visiting both the Fair and our destination. This activation took place over three days at the most iconic locations in Madrid and the IFEMA exhibition center, where curious individuals took photos and requested tourism information. The weekend will be celebrated with mariachi music to delight and entertain visitors at this important Fair.

During the Fair, the Tourism Promotion Trust, in coordination with the State Tourism Secretariat of Jalisco, held over 60 meetings with key stakeholders for communication and marketing of the State. These included airlines, wholesalers, bed banks, online travel agencies, agency consortia, media, and technology platforms from countries such as Spain, England, Germany, Italy, France, and Central Europe. The message conveyed to them was that Puerto Vallarta offers the infrastructure, experience, and services to provide their clients with the best hospitality in the friendliest city in the world, as recognized by readers of the prestigious Condé Nast Traveler magazine.

“This fair represents an opportunity because it allows us to establish new partnerships at the beginning of the year to help increase occupancy in the coming months, ensuring that Puerto Vallarta remains a national leader and reference, showcasing the attributes of our brand and generating demand during periods of opportunity that complement its seasonality,” noted Luis Villaseñor, director of the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Promotion Trust.

Representing the Jalisco delegation at this event are the State Secretary of Tourism, Ms. Claudia Vanessa Pérez Lamas; the Director of Promotion of the State Secretariat of Tourism, Rocío Lancaster Jones; the Director of Promotion and Public Relations of the Guadalajara Visitors and Conventions Bureau, Fernanda Landa; the Director of the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Promotion Trust, Luis Villaseñor; and Sandra Muñoz, Marketing Director of the same Trust, who have been dedicated to promoting connectivity and opportunities for visiting Jalisco.

As a result of this tour, there is potential for a new flight from Central Europe for the upcoming autumn-winter season, as they are seeking a new travel option in Mexico, which will be discussed further during the Gala Puerto Vallarta – Riviera Nayarit event.

Jalisco reaffirms its leadership in tourism following its participation in one of the world’s most important fairs, showcasing its two most important destinations, which are global leaders in the tourism industry. On one hand, Puerto Vallarta is the second most important sun and beach destination in Mexico, while Guadalajara is the country’s leading city in the meetings industry and the second-largest city overall.
